May I introduced myself and tell you how I walked my way into this world of art.
My name is Prasad Natarajan. I was born on a scorching hot summers day, Saturday 2nd of April 1983 to two humble and gentle soul parents. I was their first child, their only son. My father's name is Natarajan and my mother's name is Kohkila, she is known as "Laila" because she was so lean and tiny when she was born. My father worked in a general provision store since he was 17 years old. His roots are from a place named Ahavoor close by to a village from the famous Thriuvanamalai town. Sadly, my grandmother died after giving birth to my mother. At an early age, my neighbour Savithri spotted my artistic talent. Like all kids, I used the support of the walls to stand up on my feet. Those walls had many cracks in them. I would feel and watch them. I used to tell everyone that it looked like cow, goat, dog etc. Savithri said to my mother "One day your son will be a world renowned artist". That is where my small walkway towards the world of art began. My childhood days were spent tied with ropes to chairs most of the time. A wooden horse was my only companion for few years. During the rainy months of August in 1985, my mother gave birth to a premature baby girl. These are the first ever most heart touching moments of my life. For just twenty-five days, this little angel was with us. To this day, she walks with us, guiding and protecting us from all dangers. This has left such a deep wound in my heart that can never be filled or replaced. My parents decided not to have any more children due to various financial and personal reasons. By the time I was in 4th grade my grandfather passed away, a few months later my father lost his job in the general provisional shop. One fine day, my father was simply asked to leave the shop; it was one of the worst nightmares our family went through. For thirteen long years he had put all his blood and muscle into this job. The owner of the shop built a huge multi-storey building. All his daughters married and he developed to be a well-known, successful, businessman. Life was never easy. I grew up with my cousin brothers. Ashamedly, I was a bully at school; all the girls and teachers hated me for that behaviour. Growing up as an only child is not much fun. I felt quite lonely too, especially when my mother started working to support my father financially. I did not fare well in studies. I was constantly punished for being talkative and for my bullying ways. I never got any attention from anyone at home or at school. The only time I was noticed was when we had school painting competitions, then I got my due. I won prizes all the time in these painting competitions. Even now at school, they only recognize me when I remind them about my paintings. Things changed drastically after mother had a stomach cancer operation later on in my life. I had to quit studying my college to pay up for debts for operations etc. My journey towards art is not been very easy; it seems like there are million obstacles and hurdles in my way. Self-taught, naturally talented artists, have a long tough road to walk in the world of art. I am among them. With day-to-day running around to make a normal survival, I am a private person spending most of my time writing something or painting. Poetry gives me another outlet to express my feelings. My paintings are inspired by my own nightmares and imagination; few are done with photo references. I love nature a lot and today I live very far away from the busy city, amid a grove of coconut and eucalyptus plantations. I would like to convey my sincere heartfelt thanks to Shirley and the team for giving me this space to showcase my art and poetry and for having faith in me. I hope you enjoy looking at my works, thank you so much for your precious time. My paintings are for sale. I also offer a service that I can design personal paintings etc. For further information please email me: -
